Leadership Persona Development

Business Context

As a part of the transition to Cornerstone and in alignment with leadership initiatives, HR identified the need for an updated annual review process. This process aimed to embody the Training team's leadership principles and offer a user-friendly, step-by-step guide for utilizing the new platform.

Solution Overview

The primary focus of the presentation was to address two key objectives: introducing the new platform and standardizing the annual review process across the organization.

To achieve this, we developed training content centered around personas and scenarios mirroring the steps involved in the new platform. This approach aimed to enhance engagement with the updated process and provided leaders with a practice opportunity to apply a future-focused approach while navigating the new tools in a low-pressure environment.

Development Process

As the lead instructional designer for this project, I drafted a virtual instructor-led training that was recorded with PDF guides to the platform and practice scenarios for the new standardized approach. The presentation was created in PowerPoint and was scripted out for ease and consistency. Once drafted, the project was reviewed by HR and piloted with a small group of managers.

The major rollout of the training presentation was hosted by training with HR representatives to troubleshoot any issues or concerns with the new platform. All managers and business leaders were scheduled to attend in small groups.

Attendees were introduced to the new platform and the features that were necessary for the upcoming annual review process.  A persona was used to provide a practical example for both the tool and how to utilize it in a standardized way throughout the company.

As part of the platform demonstration, I crafted an employee persona representing a lower-mid level position within a specific business group. This persona included details such as strengths, weaknesses, goals, and key responsibilities.

During the presentation, managers and leaders were encouraged to utilize this persona and reflect on the available information at each step within the new tool. They then used a polling tool to rate the employee's performance, based on the presented information, while also considering the new format and standards associated with the updated process.

In the slides linked below, you will see the introduction of the persona and part of the interaction on how the tool was used in practice by the managers.
